With most of the old EU Member States participating in economic and monetary union since 1999, infra-annual economic statistics for the euro area and the European Union as a whole have gained and will continue to gain even more operational importance for collective and private decision-making. The momentum of the EU economies and most notably the euro area economy has to be assessed continuously.

The Euro-indicators/PEEIs special topic is exclusively dedicated to infra-annual economic statistics such as consumer prices, national accounts, balance of payments, external trade, industry, energy, trade and services, and the labour market, as well as a selection of monetary and financial indicators of the European Central Bank and business and consumer survey results from the European Commission's Economic and Financial Affairs DG.

The pages are updated daily and offer free of charge statistics for the EU and the euro area.

The database contains key indicators and an unrivalled volume of mostly harmonised and, above all, uniformly structured and documented national and European series. Data can be extracted online with the help of a new, user-friendly browser and customised extractions can be obtained on request. The alert function helps everybody to keep track of what is going on statistically.

48.1% of the available series in the EUROIND database are presented on a monthly basis and 51.4% are on a quarterly basis. 0.5% of series are annual, all in the National Accounts domain.

Council Regulation (EC) N° 322/97 of 17 February 1997 on Community Statistics (OJ N° L 52/1) sets the rules for General provisions, the Community statistical program and its implementation, Principles, Dissemination, Statistical confidentiality and Final provisions.

Prior to its release to the public, specific data are forwarded routinely to the European Central Bank, for their internal use. ECB respects the embargo according to the press release calendar.

Regulation (EC) No 223/2009 on European statistics (recital 24 and Article 20(4)) of 11 March 2009 (OJ L 87, p. 164), stipulates the need to establish common principles and guidelines ensuring the confidentiality of data used for the production of European statistics and the access to those confidential data with due account for technical developments and the requirements of users in a democratic society.

National data are published by the National Statistical Institutes (NSI) following national dissemination calendars. Please consult NSI's websites to get national dissemination calendar. In line with the Community legal framework and the European Statistics Code of Practice Eurostat disseminates European statistics on Eurostat's website (see item 10 - 'Dissemination format') respecting professional independence and in an objective, professional and transparent manner in which all users are treated equitably. The detailed arrangements are governed by the Eurostat protocol on impartial access to Eurostat data for users.

The Euro-indicators/PEEIs special topic contains Eurostat official publications showing the evolution of economic activity in the European Union, euro area and Member States. Publications include collections of the latest infra-annual economic statistics, methodological publications and conference proceedings. Monthly, quarterly and annual macroeconomic data are presented following an economic classification of the indicators such as: output, demand, income, prices, labour market, external transactions, monetary and financial markets.

It also provides access to Euro-indicators working papers. Finally, it contains online periodical publications produced by the Euro-indicators team, such as Newsletters, Selected Readings, Monitoring Report and State of Affairs.

All publications are available in PDF format and are free to download. Some publications can also be purchased in hardcopy.

The quality of the series is monitored on a monthly basis in the context of Euro-IND database and released in two publications "State of Affairs" and " Monitoring Report " available in the Euro-Indicators/PEEIs special topic.

The Euro-indicators dedicated section is designed to give a general overview of the recent past and the near future of the euro area, European Union and Member State's economic situation. It is essentially addressed to specialised users, such as official statisticians and economists, academics, researchers, journalists, etc. It also contains useful information for students and the general public interested in the economic situation at the European level.

55.1% of series in the EUROIND database are active (i.e. they have been updated at least once during the last 12 months), 8.9% are inactive, 0.1% are stopped and 35.9% are not available.

The database contains 51.3% of series with more than 10 years of observations and 42.2% of the active series cover 15 years or more.

29% of the total series in the EUROIND database record a delay of less than 90 days, 54.3% a delay between 90 and 180 days, and the remaining 16.7% a delay of more than 180 days. 62.8% of monthly series record a delay of less than 60 days.

Generally, business cycle data are subject to continuous revisions, so they are preliminary when first released; revisions depend on new data received by Member States.
