About the 5th Colloquium on Modern Tools for Business Cycle Analysis

The 5th Eurostat Colloquium on "Modern Tools for Business Cycle Analysis", jointly organised by Eurostat and the European University Institute (Florence, Italy), will be held in Luxembourg on 29th September – 1st October 2008.

The colloquium will be structured in invited talk and contributed papers.

The main topics of this year Colloquium will be advances in business cycle analysis and forecasting. detailed list of topics.

Objectives

The main objectives of the colloquium will be to:

  • discuss the most recent developments in theoretical and empirical business cycle analysis;
  • discuss the most recent developments in the field of forecasting economic activity and business cycle movements;
  • identify possible applications of sophisticated tools by private and public institutions involved in business cycle analysis;
  • bring together statisticians, econometricians and economists in view of exploiting synergies to improve the understanding of the cyclical movements in the economy;

Organisation

The organising committee is chaired by Inna Šteinbuka (Eurostat) and composed of:

  • Frank Schonborn (DG ECFIN);
  • Nikolaus Wurm (Eurostat); Gian Luigi Mazzi (Eurostat);
  • Rosa Ruggeri Cannata (Eurostat); Françoise Slamka (Eurostat);
  • Gaetana Montana (Eurostat).

The colloquium will be introduced by an opening session with the participation of the Deputy General Director of DG Ecfin, the General Director of Eurostat and the General Director of INSEE on "The Role of Principal European Economic Indicators in Business Cycle Analysis".

Abstracts/papers will be selected by a scientific committee chaired by Massimiliano Marcellino and composed of:
