The combined nomenclature has been used by the Community for all tariff and statistical purposes since 1 January 1988. The CN follows the structure of the harmonized system (HS), using the codes from the HS plus their subdivisions, making a total of more than 10 000 eight-digit headings. Prior to 1988, data were expressed using the NIMEXE classification of goods for external trade statistics. This covered some 10 000 products in 21 sections.
Standard International Trade Classification (SITC)
SITC Rev. 4 was accepted by the United Nations Statistical Commission at its thirty-seventh session (March 2006). It comprises 2 970 basing headings which are amalgamated into 262 groups, 67 divisions and 10 sections.
Standard goods classification transport statistics (NST/R)
This classification has been in force since 1 January 1989. It comprises 99 chapters headings and 10 sections. You can choose between goods containerised or not and the nationality of the transporters.
The primary data are collected by Member States' statistical services and the United Nations' statistical offices.
