Eurostat and DG Taxation and Customs Union jointly publish a publication entitled Taxation Trends in the EU (latest edition released on 29 April 2013). It provides a comprehensive description of the features and related data for EU taxation systems.

The data are presented within a unified statistical framework (the ESA95 harmonised system of national and regional accounts). In addition, detailed lists of taxes and social contributions according to national classification (known as National tax lists - NTLs) with the corresponding amounts and references to ESA95 categories were used for the classification according to economic function and alcohol, tobacco & environmental tax (data available in DG Taxation and Customs Union website).

Taxation trends in the European Union - Data for the EU Member States, Iceland and Norway - 2013 edition

This report contains a detailed statistical and economic analysis of the tax systems of the Member States of the European Union, plus Iceland and Norway, which are Members of the European Economic Area. The data are presented within a unified statistical framework (the ESA95 harmonised system of national and regional accounts), which makes it possible to assess the heterogeneous national tax systems on a fully comparable basis. The standard classifications of tax revenues (by major type of tax or by level of government) presented in most international tax revenue statistics are hard to interpret in economic terms.
