The new classification NUTS 2010 came into effect on 1 January 2012. The classification is managed by Eurostat and the changeover from NUTS 2006 to NUTS 2010 is coordinated by the Regional statistics unit E4. The units in charge of the reference and dissemination databases (B4, B5 and B6) together with E4 have decided to proceed in two steps:
1. The first phase only concerns codes for Greece (national and regional)
One of the changes is that NUTS 2010 uses EL (and no more GR) for Greek codes. As a consequence, the national code for Greece will also be changed to EL. The change of the national code for Greece concerns almost all tables in Eurostat's database.
The codes for Greece (88 codes) will be changed as follows:
GR ----> EL
GR1 ----> EL1
GR11 ----> EL11
GR111 ----> EL111
....
These changes will be implemented between 6 and 9 March 2012. This implies that there will be no data updates on the website from 6 March at 11:15 until 9 March 23:00. Only the code change from GR to EL will already be made visible in the afternoon of 9 March.
2. The second phase concerns all other changes related to the new NUTS 2010 and will be done gradually in Eurostat's database
The other NUTS changes also involve a major revision of the geographical standard code lists used in Eurostat's database.
