Demography
This domain provides detailed figures received from the countries on population, fertility, mortality, nuptiality and marital status at national and regional level. Main demographic indicators (crude rates, total fertility rate, life expectancy etc) are calculated by Eurostat using a harmonised methodology. Additionally, information on Eurostat’s most recent population forecasts is provided.
International migration and asylum
The tables presented in the International Migration and Asylum domain cover the following major collections: international migration flows (immigration and emigration by citizenship and by country of previous/next residence), population by citizenship and by country of birth, acquisition of citizenship, asylum applications and decisions. Data on the enforcement of immigration legislation and on residence permits will be made available in the course of 2009.
Projections
Population projections are what-if scenarios that aim to provide information about the likely future size and structure of the population. The projections are made using the latest available year for the population on 1 January, with key assumptions made with respect to mortality, fertility and migration by sex and by age for every year of the projections’ period. The tables presented in the Population Projections domain cover the EUROPOP2004 (national and regional level) and the EUROPOP2008 (national level) population projections. Information is provided for the projected population, the assumptions and the vital events.
Census
The tables presented in the Census domain cover the total population and housing for 31 countries. Five main topics are covered: structure of population, active population, education level, households, and dwellings. How complete the tables are depends largely on the availability of data at the respective National Statistical Institutes.
