Research and methodology

Research in official statistics is being carried out in many national statistical institutes and in a large number of research centres and universities through the research and technical development (RTD) Framework Programmes.

Eurostat disseminate and implement the results via the ESSnet portal and through ESSnet projects.

The research focuses on:

• identifying emerging needs in statistical production processes
• developing new statistical techniques
• producing statistics for EU policy making.

Another channel for dissemination is the CROS portal. It provides information on projects, publishes results and serves as an information exchange platform between researchers and statisticians.

EU R&D activities are implemented through a series of multi-annual research framework programmes (FP).

These programmes are the EU's main tools for funding research and development in almost all scientific disciplines.
