  In May 2012 the total business climate indicator increases by 2.8 percentage points in comparison with the previous month which is due to the improved business climate in construction, retail trade and service sector.

  Crimes Concluded with Penalty Inflicted and Persons Convicted in Second Semester of 2011 (preliminary data)
  According to the preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute for the second semester of 2011, the trials ended with inflicted penalty cover 15 620 committed crimes. The number of persons convicted with penalties come into force amounted to 17 634, while 1 200 of them were Juveniles aged 14-17 years.

  Trips of Bulgarian Residents Abroad and Arrivals of Visitors from Abroad to Bulgaria in April 2012
  In April 2012 the number of the trips of Bulgarian residents abroad was 332.0 thousand or by 7.8% more than in March and by 3.8% below the registered in April 2011.

  Goods and Passengers Carried and Transport Performance by Mode of Transport in the First Quarter of 2012
  According to preliminary data during the first quarter of 2012 in comparison with the same period of 2011 a decline both in the transported goods and in the transport performance was observed. Compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year the transported passengers rose by 386.2 thousand or by 0.2%. At the same time the transport performance fell by 1.0% which was mainly due to the land and urban electrical transport.

  Tourist Trips and Tourism-related Expenditures of the Population in the First Quarter of 2012
  According to preliminarily data of the National Statistical Institute in the first quarter of 2012, 627.4 thousand Bulgarian residents realized tourist trips, 89.0% of them were travelled in the country and 11.0% - abroad.

  NSI President Reneta Indjova, Ph.D. will participate in a meeting of the European Statistical System Committee
 
The President of NSI Reneta Indjova, Ph.D. will participate in the 13th meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC), to be held on 23-24 May 2012 at Eurostat, Luxembourg. ESSC consults the Commission on issues related to the coordination and priorities of the European Statistical Programme, further development of the Code of Practice, reduction of response burden, statistical confidentiality and methodological issues, arising from the establishment and implementation of statistical programmes.
The Agenda of the upcoming ESSC meeting includes discussions on the draft Annual Statistical Work Programme 2013 and ESSnet projects to be carried out in 2013. The proposals for the reform of Intrastat and the way forward for international trade in services will also be considered. Some other topics for discussion are related to the vertical integration of EU statistics, improving the efficiency in the statistical production process, and the draft Commission Regulation as regards access to confidential data for scientific purposes, including the procedures accompanying the draft Regulation.
The Agenda items also cover presentation of the report on the last meeting of the Partnership Group, report of the Danish EU Presidency and basic priorities of the next Presidency (Cyprus).
Mrs. Indjova will also take part in the following two events, organized back-to-back with the 13th meeting of the ESSC:
• Seminar on process integration and international trade statistics, 23 May 2012;
• Workshop on Commitments on Confidence in Statistics, 25 May 2012.

  Main Labour Force Survey Results for the First Quarter of 2012
  The employment rate of population aged 15 - 64 was 56.9%, or by 0.3 percentage points below the level registered during the first quarter of the 2011. The unemployment rate was 12.9%, or by 0.7 percentage points higher compared to the same period of the previous year.

  Statistical surveys conducted by the National Statistical Institute are providing information on activities of museums, theatres, libraries, cinemas, radio and television programs and film productions. Main indicators and coverage are designed in accordance with methodological requirements of UNESCO and Eurostat.

  Turnover Indices in Services in First Quarter of 2012
  According to preliminary data from the first quarter of 2012 the total turnover index for section “Transportation, storage and post”, calculated on the basis of seasonally adjusted data was 4.4% higher than the previous quarter. In section „Information and communication” the turnover index decreased by 0.7%.in comparison with previous quarter.

  Indices of producer prices of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture, First quarter of 2012
  The index of producer prices in agriculture increases by 4.9% in the first quarter of 2012 as compared to the same quarter 2011. Increases were registered in the livestock production by 9.9%, while in the crop production index decreased by 4.2%. The index of prices of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture in the first quarter of 2012 is 8.1% above the same quarter of 2011.

  Household Income, Expenditure and Consumption during the First Quarter of 2012
  The average quarterly total income average per household member during the first quarter of 2012 is 960 Levs or by 10.6% more compared to the same period of 2011. The total expenditure per household member during the first quarter of 2012 is 888 Levs and it increases by 14.7% in relation to the same quarter of 2011. The consumption of main food products average per capita doesn’t change significant during the first quarter of 2012 compared to the first quarter of 2011.

  GDP in the first quarter of 2012 increased by 0.5% compared to the same quarter of 2011 and remains at the same level compared to the fourth quarter of 2011.

  Inflation and Consumer Price Indices in April 2012
  The consumer price index (CPI) in April 2012 compared to March 2012 was 100.2%, i.e. the monthly inflation was 0.2%. The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) in April 2012 compared to March 2012 was 100.2%, i.e. the monthly inflation was 0.2%.

  Employees under Labour Contract and Average Wages and Salaries, First Quarter of 2012
  According to the preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) at the end of March 2012 the number of employees under labour contract decreased by 1.3% as compared to the end of December 2011 and reached to 2.10 millions. In first quarter of 2012 in comparison with the fourth quarter of 2011 the average monthly wages and salaries increased by 0.6% getting 731 levs.

  Bulgarian Trade with Third Countries for the Period January - March 2012 (preliminary data)
  In the period January - March 2012 the Bulgarian exports to third countries decreased by 1.0% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and amounted to 3.6 billion Levs while the imports increased by 9.9% and amounted to 4.5 billion Levs. In the period January - March 2012 the total value of the exported goods (both for third countries and EU) reached 9.0 billion Levs. Compared to the corresponding period of 2011 the exports decreased by 3.3% while the total value of the imported goods was 11.2 billion Levs and increased by 8.9%.

  Newly Built Residential Buildings and Dwellings Completed in the First Quarter of 2012
  According to the preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute in the first quarter of 2012 the number of newly built residential buildings was 601 and compared to the corresponding quarter of 2011, their number was unchanged.

  Bulgarian Trade with EU for the Period January - February 2012 (preliminary data)
  In the period January - February 2012 the Bulgarian exports to the EU decreased by 8.1% compared to the corresponding period of 2011 and exceeded 3.3 billion Levs while the imports increased by 6.7% and reached 4.1 billion Levs. In February 2012 the exports to the EU decreased by 8.9% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and exceeded 1.6 billion Levs while the imports increased by 11.6% and reached 2.1 billion Levs.

  Industrial Production Indices in March 2012
  The preliminary data showed that the Industrial Production Index seasonally adjusted increased by 1.0% in March 2012 as compared to February 2012. The working day adjusted Industrial Production Index fell by 3.2% as compared to the same month of 2011.
