  Over the last six months demographic indicators have been improving
 
On number of marriages, births and deaths in June 2014

In I-VI 10 469 newborns were registered in Latvia, and 1813 of them were born in June. It is 460 babies more than in the first six months of 2013. 

During the first six months of this year 10 469 newborns were registered in the country, which is 460 babies more than in the first six months of 2013. In June, there were 1813 newborns registered in Latvia - 98 more than in June 2013.

Also the number of marriages has been growing. In the first six months there were 4 220 marriages registered in Latvia, which is 370 marriages more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In June, 1377 marriages were concluded in the country - 95 more than in June 2013.

  In June producer prices in industry grew by 0.6%

Compared to May, producer prices in June rose by 0.6%. Both prices of products sold on the domestic market and prices of exported products increased by 0.6%.

Compared to May, producer prices in industry in June 2014 rose by 0.6%, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. Both prices of products sold on the domestic market and prices of exported products increased by 0.6%; of which in exports to euro area countries reduced by 0.1% and in exports to non-euro area countries rose by 1.0%. Over the month producer price changes were mostly affected by price growth in electricity, steam and air conditioning supply.

  Over the year household consumption expenditure has grown by 6.7%

In 2013 household consumption expenditure per household member was EUR 301, which is EUR 19 more than in 2012.  During the last three years a moderate increase in the household consumption expenditure can be observed.

Analysis of the Household Budget Survey data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia (CSB) shows that in 2013 household consumption expenditure per household member was EUR 301, which is EUR 19 more than in 2012.  In accordance with the survey data during the last three years a moderate increase in the household consumption expenditure can be observed; however, consumption expenditure in 2013 was still lower than in 2008.

  22.6 thousand Latvian residents chose to emigrate in 2013

Due to international long-term migration the number of Latvian population in 2013 dropped by 14.3 thousand or 0.7%, which is by 2.4 thsd more than in 2012, when the number of population due to international long-term migration decreased by 11.9 thousand or by 0.6%.

The latest data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that due to international long-term migration1 the number of Latvian population in 2013 dropped by 14.3 thousand persons or 0.7%, which is by 2.4 thousand more than in 2012, when the number of population due to international long-term migration decreased by 11.9 thousand or by 0.6%.

  In May Russia's share in foreign trade of Latvia reduces

In May 2014 compared to April exports value of goods at current prices reduced by 3.6%, but imports value of goods – by 5.0%. Foreign trade balance slightly improved as exports in total foreign trade value increased to 45.0%.

Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureaushow that in May 2014 compared to previous month exports value of goods at current prices reduced by 3.6%, but imports value of goods by 5.0%.In May Latvia exported goods in amount of 809.4 mln euros, but imported - in amount of 988.4 mln euros. In April foreign trade balance slightly improved as exports in total foreign trade value increased to 45.0% (in April 2014 – 44.7%).

  Manufacturing turnover in May decreased by 3%

Compared to April, manufacturing turnover in May decreased by 3%. Compared to May 2013, turnover grew by 0.1%.

Latest data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that compared to April manufacturing turnover[1] in May 2014 according to seasonally adjusted data (at current prices), decreased by 3%, of which by 3.6% in domestic market and by 2.2% in export (drop in export to Eurozone - 7.3%, while in export to Non-eurozone there was a growth of 2.2%).

Compared to May, consumer prices in June 2014 rose by 0.3%. Compared to June 2013, the average consumer price level increased by 0.7%

Compared to June 2013, the average consumer price level in June 20141)rose by 0.7%. Prices of goods decreased by 0.2%, while prices of services grew by 2.9%. Compared to the previous 12 months, the average consumer price level over the last 12 months2) increased by 0.2%.

Compared to April, industrial production volume in May rose by 0.3%. Volume of industrial production rose by 4.2% on electricity and gas supply, but there was a reduction in manufacturing – by 0.7% and in mining and quarrying – by 3.1%.

Compared to April, construction costs in May increased by 0.1%. Compared to May 2013, average level of construction costs has not changed significantly.

Compared to April, level of construction costs in Latvia in May 2014 increased by 0.1%. Labour remuneration of workers grew by 1.4%, but prices of building materials and maintenance and operational costs of machinery and equipment reduced by 0.1%.

Compared to April, the total retail trade turnover in May dropped by 3.0%. Retail trade in food products has remained the same, whereas of non-food products reduced by 5.0%.

Data of Central Statistical Bureau show that, compared to April, the total retail trade turnover in May 2014 dropped by 3.0%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Retail trade in food products has remained the same, whereas of non-food products reduced by 5.0%.

Compared to April, the total retail trade turnover at current prices, not taking into account seasonality, in May rose by 2.3%. A year ago - in May 2013, compared to April 2013 - turnover grew by 10.6%.
