  Easiest accessibility to public transport and grocery services
 
Accessibility of various services in households

In 2012, households had the easiest accessibility to public transport (83.5%) and grocery services (80.7%). One third of the households accessed primary health care services with difficulty.

Results of the EU Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) survey compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia allow concluding that, in 2012, households had the easiest accessibility to public transport (83.5%) and grocery services (80.7%). Survey data indicate that almost all households (96.3%) are using grocery and primary health care services.

One third (33.2%) of the households accessed primary health care services with difficulty.

Latvia takes 15th place in EU Gender Equality Index list

According to the EU Gender Equality Index published by the European Institute for Gender Equality, Latvia takes 15th place in the Member State list – out of maximum 100 points Latvia has 44.4.

On June 13, European Institute for Gender Equality published the new Gender Equality Index in EU Member States; Latvia in the EU list takes 15th place. The index in one indicator combines six main domains (work, money, power, knowledge, time, and health*), in which gender gap may be observed.

  Slower population decrease; higher birth rates in all regions
 
On changes of demographic situation in Latvia in 2012

Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that on 01.01.2013 the number of resident population in Latvia comprised 2 million 22 thousand. Birth number has increased in all regions, and the highest rise was recorded in Riga and Pierīga regions.

In 2012, population number in Latviacontinued to reduce; however, a decrease was slower. Provisional data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that on 1 January 2013 the number of resident population comprised 2 million 22 thousand, of which females accounted for 1 million 95 thousand, while males – for  927 thousand.

In 2012, consumption of energy resources in Latvia comprised 183 petajoules (PJ). In comparison with 2011, import of energy resources has grown by 3.9%, while export – by 10.9%.

Data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that in 2012, total consumption of energy resources in Latviacomprised 183 petajoules (PJ) – 0.9% less than a year before. In comparison with 2011, total import of energy resources has risen by 3.9%, while export has increased by 10.9%.

During year, consumer prices have dropped by 0.1%, while in comparison with April, prices have grown by 0.1%.

Latest data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that compared to May 20121, the average level of consumer prices in May 2013 has reduced by 0.1%. Prices of both goods and services have diminished by 0.1%. The average level of consumer prices during the last 12 months has increased by 1.0%, as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Manufacturing turnover in April, as compared to March, has diminished by 5.1%, whereas in comparison with April 2012 – by 3.6%.

Seasonally adjusted data (at current prices) of the Central Statistical Bureau show that, compared to March 2013, manufacturing turnover1 in April 2013 has dropped by 5.1%, of which by 5.9% in domestic market and by 4% in export.

  Exports and imports of food products increases

In April, compared to March, exports value of goods rose by 5.0%, but imports value – reduced by 0.5. Exports and imports of food products increases.

Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that in April 2013, compared to March of this year, exports value of goods at current prices rose by 5.0%, but imports value of goods – reduced by 0.5%. In April foreign trade balance improved as exports in total foreign trade value increased to 44.9% (in March of this year – 43.6%), see picture:

  In the 1st quarter of 2013 gross domestic product increased by 3.6%
 
On changes of Gross Domestic Product in the 1st quarter of 2013

In the 1st quarter of this year, compared to the 1st quarter of 2012, GDP has grown by 3.6% (seasonally non-adjusted data). In the 1st quarter of this year GDP at current prices was 3 597.2 mln lats.

Data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices in the 1st quarter of 2013 was 3 597.2 mln lats.

  Industrial production in April has grown by 0.5%

In comparison with March, industrial production volume in April has grown by 0.5%. Rise in manufacturing comprise 0.8%, while in mining and quarrying as well as electricity and gas supply there was a reduction – of 4.1% and 0.4%, respectively.

Latest data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that, in comparison with March, industrial production volume in April increased by 0.5%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Rise in manufacturing comprised 0.8%, while in mining and quarrying as well as in electricity and gas supply there was a decrease of 4.1% and 0.4%, respectively.

  Wages and purchasing power are still increasing
 
On changes of labour costs in 1st quarter of 2013

Average wages and salaries in the country already for the 3rd year in a row are increasing. Compared to the 1st quarter of 2012, gross wages and salaries in the 1st quarter of 2013 have risen by 4.2% - from LVL 466 to LVL 486.

Data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that the average wages and salaries in the country are growing already for the third year in a row.
