  Birth rate keeps growing
 
On number of marriages, births and deaths in August 2014

In the first eight months of this year 14 368 newborns were registered in the country, which is 576 babies more than in the corresponding period of 2013. During this period of time 8 440 marriages were registered in Latvia, which is 324 marriages more than in the corresponding period of the previous year.

In August 1 880 newborns were registered in the country, which is 22 more than in August 2013. Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that in the first eight months of this year 14 368 babies were registered in the country, which is 576 newborns more than in the corresponding period of 2013.

  Producer prices in industry over the month do not change
 
On producer price changes in industry in August 2014

Compared to July, producer prices in industry in August 2014 have not changed. Compared to August of the previous year, the overall level of producer prices in industry increased by 0.5%.

Compared to July, producer prices in industry in August 2014 have not changed, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. Producer prices of products sold on the domestic market rose by 0.2%, but prices of exported products declined by 0.2%; of which prices in exports to euro area countries decreased by 0.5%, but to non-euro area countries - did not change.

  Number of occupied posts decreases in the first half of this year

At the end of the first half of 2014 there were 872.5 thsd occupied posts in the country, which is 2.2 thsd posts or 0.2% less than in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Data of Central Statistical Bureau show that at the end of the first half of 2014 there were 872.5 thsd occupied posts in the country, which is 2.2 thsd posts or 0.2% less than in the corresponding period of the previous year.  In the private sector at the end of June 2014 there were 0.6 thsd occupied posts, which is 0.1% less than a year ago declining to 585.0 thsd, while in the public sector the number of occupied posts decreased by 1.6 thsd or 0.5% falling to 287.4 thsd.

  Round timber purchasing prices show stable increase
 
On average purchase prices of round timber in the 1st half of 2014

The average purchase prices of round timber in the 1st half of 2014 as compared to the 2nd half of 2013 continued to increase.

According to the latest data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB), the average purchase prices of round timber in the 1st half of 2014 as compared to the 2nd half of 2013 continued to increase.

During this period of time compared to the 2nd half of 2013 the average purchase prices of pine sawlogs increased on average by 7% or by 2-5 €/m3 without the VAT, in turn prices of spruce sawlogs increased on average by 4%.

  Hourly labour costs have grown by 51 cents

Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2013 hourly labour costs in the 2nd quarter of 2014 grew by 51 cents per hour or by 8.6%, reaching EUR 6.58.

Data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that, compared to the 2nd quarter of 2013 hourly labour costs in the 2nd quarter of 2014 grew by 51 cents per hour or by 8.6%, reaching EUR 6.58.

Seasonally adjusted data (differences in number of calendar days and seasonal influence have been averted) show that labour costs have increased by 6.0%.

  In July exports value of goods increased by 9%

In July 2014 compared to June exports value of goods at current prices rose by 9.0%, and imports value of goods – by 6.9%. Foreign trade balance slightly improved as exports in total foreign trade value increased to 44.6% (in June – 44.1%).

Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureaushow that in July 2014 compared to the previous month exports value of goods at current prices rose by 9.0%, and imports value of goods by 6.9%. In July Latvia exported goods in the amount of 848.4 mln euros, but imported - in the amount of 1,055.1 mln euros. In July foreign trade balance slightly improved as exports in total foreign trade value increased to 44.6% (in June 2014 – 44.1%).

  During the year consumer prices rose by 0.8%

Compared to August 2013, the average consumer price level in August 2014, rose by 0.8%. Prices of goods decreased by 0.1%, while prices of services grew by 3.2%.

According to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau, compared to August 2013, the average consumer price level in August 20141, rose by 0.8%. Prices of goods decreased by 0.1%, while prices of services grew by 3.2%. Compared to the previous 12 months, the average consumer price level over the last 12 months2,  increased by 0.3%.

  Manufacturing turnover growth in July - 0.7%
 
On manufacturing turnover in July 2014

Compared to June manufacturing turnover in July 2014 grew by 0.7%. Compared to July 2013, manufacturing turnover in industry decreased by 1.7%, of which in domestic market by 3.9%. In export there was a growth of 1.4%.

Latest data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that compared to June manufacturing turnover in July  20141 according to seasonally adjusted data (at current prices), grew by 0.7%, of which by 1.9% in export (increase in Eurozone of 5.1% and drop in Non-eurozone of 5.1%). In turn, in domestic market there was a decline of 0.2%.

  Industrial production in July grew by 1.4%

Compared to June industrial production volume in July rose by 1.4%, but, compared to July of the last year, it reduced by 1.5%. The decrease over a year was affected by reduction of production in mining and quarrying – by 6.6% and in manufacturing – by 2.6%.

Latest data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau show that, compared to June industrial production volume in July (according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices) rose by 1.4%. Of which in manufacturing - by 1.2%, in mining and quarrying – by 5.5%, and in electricity and gas supply - by 1.8%.

  Consumption of renewable sources last year reduced by 2.5%
 
On consumption of renewable energy sources in Latvia in 2013

In 2013 consumption of renewable energy sources in Latvia comprised 68 gigajoules. In comparison with 2012 the consumption fell by 2.5%.

Data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that, in 2013 renewable energy sources (RES) in Latvia comprised 68 petajoules (PJ). In comparison with 2012 RES consumption fell by 2.5%. This was due to reduction of volume of electricity produced in hydropower plants. In 2013, volume of electricity produced in hydropower plants reached 2912 gigawatt hours (GWh) - 21.9% less than in 2012.
