Compared to March, construction costs in April 2012 increased on average by 0.7%.

Compared to March, construction costs in April 2012 increased on average by 0.7%, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau. Labour remuneration of workers grew by 3.7% and maintenance and operational costs of machinery and equipment rose by 0.9%. In its turn, prices of building materials declined by 0.6%.

Compared to the 1st quarter of 2011, the unit value (UV) in the 1st quarter of 2012 increased by 3.1% for exported goods and by 8.2% for imported goods.

Compared to the 1st quarter of 2011, the unit value (UV) in the 1st quarter of 2012 increased by 3.1% for exported goods and by 8.2% for imported goods. In its turn, in comparison with the previous quarter, the UV of exported goods grew by 2.2%, whereas the UV of imported goods rose by 5.0%.

Compared to March, the overall level of producer prices in the Latvian industry in April 2012 increased by 0.9%.

Compared to March, the overall level of producer prices in the Latvian industry in April 2012 increased by 0.9%, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. The prices of products sold on the domestic market rose by 0.5%, while prices of exported products grew by 1.3%.

The number of visitors in hotels and other accommodation establishments1 in the 1st quarter of 2012 comprised 284.6 thousand people, which is 15.2% more than in the 1st quarter of 2011.

According to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB), the number of visitors in hotels and other accommodation establishments1 in the 1st quarter of 2012 comprised 284.6 thousand people, which is 15.2% more than in the 1st quarter of 2011. Of which 63.6% were foreign guests and 36.4% - residents of Latvia. This percentage was similar also in the previous reporting periods. The number of both – foreign and Latvian guests increased by 15%, as compared to the corresponding period of 2011.

Compared to the corresponding period a year before, the number of active population in 1st quarter of 2012 has increased by 0.9%. Almost two thirds (65.1%) of the population in this age group were active; this indicator comprised 69.4% among men and 61.3% among women.

CSB has compiled Labour Force Survey results on labour status of population1 (aged 15-74) and situation in the labour market in 1st quarter of 2012.

The results of the survey on the domestic trips of Latvian residents conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau show that there were 13.4 million recreational trips made in 2011, they grew by 1.4% if compared to the previous year.

With the increase of the fuel prices, the distance of the trips decreased, while the number of same day trips grew by 2.2% as compared to the previous year.

In January - March 2012 the total value of goods in foreign trade of Latvia at current prices reached LVL 3453.5 million – an increase of LVL 466.7 million or 15.6%, as compared to January – March 2011.

Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that, in January - March 2012 the total value of goods in foreign trade of Latvia at current prices reached LVL 3453.5 million – an increase of LVL 466.7 million or 15.6%, as compared to January – March 2011. Of which export value grew by LVL 172.9 million or 13.0%, whereas import value rose by LVL 293.9 million or 17.7%.

2011 there were 84 active combined heat and power (CHP) plants in Latvia, with total electrical capacity of 966.2 megawatts (MW).

According to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau in 2011 there were 84 active combined heat and power (CHP) plants in Latvia, with total electrical capacity of 966.2 megawatts (MW). These CHP plants produced 3122 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity and 4175 GWh of heat energy, which is 60.9 % of the total volume of the produced heat.

Cogeneration is simultaneous production of heat energy and electricity in a single cycle.

The most optimistic self-perceived health was recorded among young people aged 16-24. 86.5% of them perceive their health as ‘’good’’ or ‘’very good’’.

According to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) 47.9% of respondents in 2011 characterised their health as “good” or "very good”. In its turn, 35.5% assessed their health only as “fair”. 13.3% of respondents described their health as "bad" and 3.3% - as "very bad". As compared to 2010 significant changes in self-assessment of state of health have not been recorded.

According to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau construction volume at current prices in the 1st quarter of 2012 comprised LVL 123.6 million.
