  Construction costs in July reduced by 0.6%

Compared to June, construction costs in July decreased by 0.6%. Prices of building materials decreased by 0.8%, labour remuneration of workers – by 0.5% and maintenance and operational costs of machinery and equipment – by 0.2%.

  Number of visitors in hotels and other accommodation establishments has increased
 
Latvian hotels and other accommodation establishments in the 2nd quarter of 2014

Significant increase of visitors in the activity of hotels. In the 2nd quarter of this year there were 564.0 thsd visitors, which is 19.7% more than in the 2nd quarter of 2013.

According to the data of Central Statistical Bureau, the number of visitors in hotels and other accommodation establishments1 in the 2nd quarter of this year comprised 564.0 thousand people, which is 19.7% more than in the 2nd quarter of the last year. Of which 69.8% were foreign tourists and 30.2% – residents of Latvia. Similar breakdown of visitors was also in the previous quarters.

  In July producer prices in industry grew by 0.2%

Compared to June, producer prices in industry in July 2014 rose by 0.2%. Over a year level of producer prices increased by 0.7%.

Compared to June, producer prices in industry in July 2014 rose by 0.2%, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. The producer prices of products sold on the domestic market rose by 0.5%, but prices of exported products reduced by 0.2%; of which in exports to non-euro area countries decreased by 0.5%, but to euro area countries - rose by 0.3%. Over the month producer price changes were mostly affected by price increase in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply.

  Number of births keeps growing
 
On number of marriages, births and deaths in July 2014

During the seven months of 2014, 12 488 newborns were registered, which is 554 babies more than in the same period of 2013. 6 186 marriages were registered this year, which is 383 more than in the seven months of the previous year.

During the seven months of this year 12 488 newborns were registered in the country, which is 554 babies more than in the first seven months of 2013. Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that in July 2 019 babies were registered in the country, which is 94 newborns more than in July of the previous year (in June of this year – 1 813 newborns).

  In foreign trade of Latvia exports of goods increases, but imports - decreases

In the foreign trade of Latvia exports of goods increases, but imports – decreases. The volume of goods exported increased by 74.5 mln euros or 1.6%, but volume of imports reduced by 55.0 mln euros or 0.9% as compared to the first half of 2013.

In the first half of this year Latvia exported goods in amount of 4.8 bln euros, but imported – in amount of 6.0 billion euros. The provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that in the first half of this year the volume of goods exported at current prices increased by 74.5 mln euros or 1.6%, but volume of imports reduced by 55.0 mln euros or 0.9% as compared to the first half of previous year.

  59.3% of the total number of population were employed in the 2nd quarter of 2014

Employment rate keeps increasing. In the 2nd quarter of 2014, 889.1 thsd or 59.3% of persons aged 15 - 74 were employed. A year ago - 57.9%.

In the 2nd quarter of 2014 there were 889.1 thousand employed persons in Latvia or 59.3% of the total number of population aged 15-74. Results of the Labour Force Survey conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that a year ago 57.9% of the total number of population were employed, and in the 1st quarter of 2014 - 58.6%.

  Unemployment rate declines
 
On unemployment rate in 2nd quarter of 2014

In the second quarter of 2014 there were 106.2 thsd. unemployed persons aged 15-74 in Latvia; of which 17.7 thsd. or 16.7% were young people aged 15 – 24. 502.9 thsd persons aged 15 to 74 were economically inactive.  

Results of the Labour Force Survey conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that in the second quarter of 2014 there were 106.2 thousand unemployed persons aged 15-74 in Latvia; of which 17.7 thousand or 16.7% were young people aged 15 – 24.

  Construction shows stable growth
 
On construction and building permits granted in 2nd quarter of 2014

In the first half of 2014, construction output volume at current prices accounted for EUR 680.4 million, over the year increasing by 15.8%.

The latest data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that, in the first half of 2014, construction output volume at current prices accounted for EUR 680.4 million, of which in the 2nd quarter - EUR 426.1 million, over the year increasing by 15.8%.

  Latvia is the Baltic leader in the number of births registered in 2013

Compared to 2012, in 2013 Latvia was the only Baltic country where the number of births increased. The number of newborns in Latvia grew by 699.

Data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that in 2013 as compared to 2012 Latvia was the only Baltic State where the number of births was increasing.  As compared to 2012 there were 699 newborns more registered in Latvia in 2013, while in Lithuania and Estonia this indicator decreased by 574 and 525, respectively. Besides, Estonia has been experiencing this negative trend already for the third year in a row.

The value of export of foodstuffs included in the Russian embargo list accounted for 52.8 mln euros in 2013, and reached 38.5 mln euros in the 1st half of 2014.
However, the share of these products in the total Latvian export in the first six months of 2014 accounted for only 0.8%.
