A significant number of tables are published in Eurostat's New Cronos series under the heading of Science and Technology. The tables are divided into six domains, and each domain comprises further sub-domains. The six domains are:
- Research and development (R&D) - Nationally compiled statistics on R&D expenditure, R&D personnel and government budget appropriations or outlays on R&D (GBAORD). This domain also hosts main indicators from the EU R&D Investment Scoreboard, compiled by the European Commission (JRC-IPTS/DG RTD), based on companies' annual reports and accounts. [For more information see separate dedicated section.]
- Community innovation survey (CIS) - At European level, the main source of information for studying innovation drivers and the behaviour of enterprises in relation to innovation.
- High-tech industry and knowledge-intensive services - This makes use of other domains at Eurostat to present data on subjects such as high-tech trade, employment in high-tech manufacturing, etc. It also contains data on Venture Capital Investments (VCI).
- Patents - This features statistics on patent applications to the EPO, patents granted by the USPTO and triadic patent families.
- Human Resources in Science & Technology (HRST) - This contains statistics on the stock and flow of people with tertiary level education and/or who work in an S&T occupation.
