Glossary:Environmental Data Centre
From Statistics Explained
Three European Union (EU) bodies managing information on environmental pressures and the state of Europe's environment (Eurostat, the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC)) are currently setting up Environmental Data Centres in order to centralize and more efficiently present data on 10 specific topics.
Eurostat is responsible for two of these Environmental Data Centres responsible for three topics:
- natural resources and products combined: Environmental Data Centres on Natural Resources and Products (EDCNRP);
- waste: Environmental Data Centre on Waste.
Other Environmental Data Centres are managed by:
- air pollution: European air pollution data centre;
- biodiversity: European biodiversity data centre;
- climate change: European climate change data centre;
- land use: Environmental data centre for land use;
- water: European water data centre;
- soil: European soil data centre (ESDAC);
- forests: European forest data centre (EFDAC).
