A pesticide is a chemical substance used in agriculture to kill or limit organisms which are considered 'pests' because they might endanger agricultural crop output; pesticides can be subdivided into:

• fungicides (against fungi);
• herbicides (against plants considered to be 'weeds');
• insecticides (against insects).
